What is Botox? |
Cosmetic Surgery For Men Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), which represents around a third of such surgeons, says its members carried out 32,453 surgical procedures during 2007 - up 12.2% from the year before. And what's particularly interesting is the number of men turning to cosmetic surgery. In 2004, 1,348 men were treated by BAAPS surgeons - in 2007 that number had more than doubled to 2,881. And men now account for 9% of all cosmetic procedures carried out in the UK. It's a trend that is already apparent in the USA too. From 2000 to 2005, the number of men seeking cosmetic surgery has increased 44% to 911,850, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery. The five most common surgical procedures for men in the UK during 2007 were nose corection or rhinoplasty (716), liposuction (582),eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty (558), ear correction or otoplasty (418), and face / neck lift (230). More men than ever are also opting for a tummy tuck - 98 compared to 61 in 2006, a rise of 61%. And male breast reduction, getting rid of so-called "man boobs", is also on the rise with 224 operations carried out by BAAPS in 2007 compared to just 22 in 2002. If you are considering cosmetic surgery you will be in good company - Michael Douglas, Tom Cruise, Tom Jones, Ozzy Osbourne and Elton John have all apparently undergone surgery to improve their appearance. |
